About Los Cristianos

Located just 15 km west of Tenerife South Airport, Los Cristianos is one of the most popular resorts in the Canaries. The artificial beaches are very nice and it has a wonderful harbour that offers fishing trips, pleasure cruises, glass bottom boats, diving excursions and ferries to La Gomera.
Los Cristianos tends to attract a slightly older holiday maker in comparison to Playa de las Americas and has managed to keep a little of its original architecture and atmosphere as a quaint fishing village. What you will easily find is year round sunshine and a vast array of Pubs, clubs, shops, restaurants (English and German too) and boisterous nightlife. The nearby Siam Park and AquaPark are a must for any family, perfect for the kids to spend the whole day enjoying all of the facilities. Tenerife Zoo and the Eagle Park are also within easy reach of Los Cristianos.
The Beaches

The beach at Los Cristianos is popular with both locals and tourists alike. The main town beach that opens on to the harbour is the location of a volleyball competition that usually takes place every Easter, when it also attracts a small number of sand sculptures. Of the two beaches, the newer Playa de las Vistas is slightly the larger, and if we are honest the water quality here is a little better too.

Transport

Moving around the south west coast of Tenerife by public transport is also fairly easy for those people who do not wish to hire a car whilst they are on holiday. The local bus station, known locally as "Cristianos 1", is situated on the main road running inland from the Princesa Dacil hotel. The cost of a one way ticket to nearby Playa de las Americas is around 60p per person, with buses running every 15 -20 minutes.

The Sunday Market

Every Sunday morning throughout the year, Los Cristianos holds one of the biggest street markets on Tenerife. If you just follow the crowds, you'll soon end up at the eastern edge of the resort next to the Arona Gran hotel. Every person entering the market does have to run the gauntlet of innumerable timeshare touts attempting to lure you to their development with offers of free car hire, free holidays or even cash rewards. Just smile, keep walking, and say no, and they'll soon move on to the next likely candidate. Once inside the market it usually takes around 1.1/2 to 2 hours to see everything, although to secure the best bargains you will have to haggle with the traders. A couple of words of advice, do not start to negotiate if you have no intention of buying, but do not be afraid to say no and walk away if the prices do not fall to a level that you are prepared to pay for an item. Common sense we know, but still easy to forget.
